Musical Otaku - My Name Is J-F Bibeau
ABOUT MYSELF
Home

Your reasons for stumbling onto this site must be equally personal as my intentions to be unpresumptuous about it. So let's both take these assumptions for granted and get to know each other, if we don't already. As such, I welcome you onto this site dedicated merely to the many aspects of my life, in hopes that you will find what you sought, be it entertainment, business opportunities or the motivation to simply contact me and say hello. My name is J-F Bibeau. J-F stands for Jean-François, which is my whole first name. I have no middle name by which I go by. I've found most English-speakers have problems reading out my last name, while curiously they can easily pronounce the word "plateau". That last syllable of my name is exactly the same. I'm a French Canadian, from Montréal, Québec. I was born June 26th, 1977. I was part of the first wave of students to attend the then-new St-Louis College highschool. I obtained an International Baccalaureate from André-Laurendeau College, then earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Montreal in 1998.

In 1997 I married an American I had met online and moved down to Virginia at the end of 1998, after becoming a U.S. permanent resident. Good judgment and age prevailed over our rushed decision, and in 2003 we concluded a divorce, which enabled us to part ways on peaceful and wisened terms. During our separation I rented an appartment in Silver Spring, Maryland, and after the sale of our house in Sterling, I moved to Baltimore. I'm a professional computer programmer, and freelancing film composer, costume designer, dancer, writer, game designer and comedian. I have no official background in any of those areas and as such am completely self-taught. I am however a very careful observer and I studied each one of these creative endeavours before attempting to delve into them myself. I started the MusicalOtaku site in 2001, but effected a complete re-design in the first half of 2007, and another, more business-oriented one a year later. The word "Otaku" is a japanese term that effectively refers to "a fan", more specifically of anime and related Japanese entertainment. Although I have been drawn to Japanese animation since my childhood, it is only a small aspect of the many forms of entertainments that have fed my imagination throughout the years.

All my adult life, I've made a practice of observing. Everything. Especially creative and artistic processes. I'll observe, analyze and reverse-engineer for years, until I have a firm understanding of what works and doesn't work, so that when I finally try my hand at it, I have the equivalent of a novice's experience. That is how I've managed to claim such diverse titles as composer and dancer without any actual formation in these fields. A little observation goes a long way. I'm characterized by my unique and indefatigable sense of humour. I'm left-handed. For no particular reason, I use "u"s in my spelling of the "or" syllable despite not being British. My first language is Quebecquer French, I am fluent in English, have a formation in Spanish and an ever-growing familiarity with self-taught Japanese.

I hope your visit on MusicalOtaku proves as insightful as it's been valorizing for me to program.
